This track had several rigorous constraints put on its completion.

The first was that it had to be written, recorded and produced (ready for release) within 1 week. This would have been a lot easier if I wasn't doing full-time social work at the time.

The second was it had to sound a bit like a sea shanty, with no vocals, and not actually BEING a sea shanty. I learned so much from in depth analysis of a bunch of music in this genre, which I am now thoroughly besotted with. GOOD STUFF THIS RUM!!!

The third was self imposed, I made sure to only use instruments that were era specific and could be reasonably assumed to be found onboard a ship. This turned up an odd curio for later use, the pirate tactic of "vaporing," which is the use of drums and oboes to make a raucous sound before boarding. I started desperately pining over concertinas and the might hurry curdy, which someday I will have in my clingy spider claws.

The last constraint is I wanted to retain the call and response of the Shanty form, and force myself to narrowly limited the number of themes. I have a tendency to create very dense textures, so this music feels almost risqué, almost nude to me, and I find it in turns deeply satisfying and terrifying to pull off.
